I think 12s even 13s are for Eb standard tuning. With Eb standard tuning each string is tuned a half step lower and the tension on the neck reduced.

Going from .009's to .012's?? Thats a studly change on a Tele, Slim-bro. Im hoping that geetar has big-ass frets... if its got those little vintage size frets, your fingers must have the callouses of a coal miner.

When I used to play regularly, my calluses were even thicker. I could shave 'em off.

Yeah, I did tune down a half step. When you think about it, .12 isn't that heavy when compared to an acoustic, where .12 is considered light.

I've been playing solidbodies for a few months exclusively, using .009's primarily. Its a bit painful going over to an acoustic at the moment.

A guage up or down doesn't usually require much in the way of set up or even nut alterations. Everyone has their string preferences, but that small of a change shouldn't require much of anything.
