Violin is a very difficult instrument to play. Its an art in itself to use the bow. No frets on a violin does that tell you something.

Some of the electric violins actually have frets.

They actually have stickers for beginners to mark the notes ! I ordered some yesterday actually to give it a go. Although I'm finding muscle memory with establishing where the notes are isn't too difficult.

My bowing technique vastly improved when I discovered your supposed to push out the fingers then pull them back in when you are going up and down with the bow. Makes the bow sound a lot more fluid.

Overall I think having dexterity in my fingers established already via guitar has been a pretty big help.
