I love listening to live bands that are really good, but I can't stand to listen for more than an hour. Why? Because when I hear a band playing, I feel like I'm supposed to be playing. I played for so many years and never had many chances to hear other bands, so I feel out of place if I'm not playing. With that said, I could sit and watch Larry Carlton or Lee Ritenhour for hours on end because there would be so much I could learn from just watching and listening. If I happen to be casually passing by someone playing, I don't pass up a chance to see if they are doing something where I can learn a trick or two.

That's interesting because I've had the opposite experience. When I wasn't playing in a band, if I saw somebody playing guitar either solo or in a band, I'd get that itch to be able to do that. Now, when I'm not playing, I appreciate being able to sit and watch a performance...and relax.

I can usually only make it through one set, otherwise I get bored. I get bored mostly because I'm not one to hang out in bars...I'm more of a homebody. It's for this reason that I never expect friends to stay longer than a set if they come out to see us.
