Default GTGP – February 2018

Inspired by that thread on accordion music, here's the next Guess The Guitar Player track: Conjunto Jam in A!

This was the closest I could come to conjunto style using the tracks I have in Band-in-a-Box.

It's basically just an 8 bar progression: A A E E E E A A

Probably major and minor scales would work on this one. Have fun!

An mp3 version is also attached, and a Soundcloud link for download is here:
https://soundcloud.com/honky-tonk-jo...m-in-a-145-bpm

UPDATE: A prize for the Feb 2018 GTGP has been announced to boost interest, participation, and fun!!!

All participants in the Feb 2018 GTGP will be entered into a random drawing for a pack of guitar strings of their choice!!!

To be eligible all you have to do is submit something (and of course be OK with me putting it in the final mixed track for guessing). Does not have to be the entire song, in fact 2 or 4 etc. times through the 8-bar progression will be fine! For example, I think I'm going to have two 8-bar solos to submit myself.

Some legal stuff: Open to all Guitar Forum members. One entry per person. Winner chosen at random in exciting fashion to be announced later. Big John himself not eligible to win. Strings of choice must be within reason...e.g. not $40 pack of carbon nanotube coated 12-strings. Submission must include actual guitar playing...i.e. no trickery like a silent guitar solo, etc. Deadline for entry is February 28, 2018. Just to be clear, the winner will chosen entirely at random...i.e. not selected/judged based on guitar playing!

Submissions can be emailed to me at the following address:

Good luck, everyone!

OK, I've received a flurry of PMs over this, and they seem to center on the following 2 topics:

1. The backing track is too fast.

Well, upon review of other GTPT threads, I will have to agree with you all. This is more uptempo than we are used to, but I was kind of limited with what I had to work with in Band-in-a-Box. I am having a hard time with it myself. But let's persevere, shall we? We've got a whole month!

2. I am not familiar with conjunto style lead guitar.

Me neither! Just try some major pentatonic licks, some minor pentatonic licks, mix them together, etc. So far I've found that Chuck Berry style guitar licks seem to fall in there nicely.

Awesome! I'm trying to come up with something too.

Also everybody remember since this is a GTGP format, there is no need to turn in a complete 3-minute long guitar piece. Just need breaks of 8 bars, 16 bars, or whatever you like, then I will compile them all to one longer track.

I'll probably try this one, kinda sounds fun, I like hyper funky fast stuff. We'll see if my fingers can keep up with my brain though lol

At first I didn't care for this but I started noodling around & it's kinda fun.
Don't let the genre or the speed put you off.
Working on mine.

Got the link, Ron! Haven't DL'ed yet as for some reason dropbox is blocked here at work...will get it when I get to the house.

Yeah, a 30 second clip is fine! That's about all I can come up with myself on short/fast progressions like this before I feel like I am just repeating myself.
