Default WD-40 on guitar case latch

One of the latches on my hardcase was a bit stiff, squeaking and not turning well so I used a tiny, tiny bit of WD40 to loosen it up which seemed to work quite well. I did it with the guitar and humidifiers taken out of the case first.

Is there an issue if any amount, even if very small, got inside the case? Can this chemical damage the case or guitar in any way?

My BG tells me it could cause "spots" if the finish is lacquer but if it is a polyeurethane finish it should be ok

use sparingly and allow to evaporate/air out before putting the git'r back. Should be ok...

I checked closely and the hinge is on the outside of the case, and since the case was closed when I used the WD40, none of the fluid could have gotten inside the case. I checked with a flashlight to be sure and didn't see any, so hopefully none did.

Clean up the excess WD40 with a dry towel.
WD40 is used to clean your hinges.
Use "Hinge Oil" to lubricate your hinges after you've cleaned them.

Any light lubricating oil will do, the same as on tuning machines. I use gun oil, but 3-in-1, sewing machine oil, etc are good.

I'd wipe down the guitar just in case.

WD stands for (or "once stood for") water dispersent (per my understanding), it is also used as a cleaning agent. As noted above, use a light weight lubricating oil or graphite or something similar. The WD40 will eventually dry out and you'll be back to where you were or worse.
