Default Quit My Job

I was a Project Manager helping outsource web work. I started to hate it so quit. I've already picked up other web work after deciding to quit at like 1 am last night.

I felt terrible facilitating outsourcing to workers being paid $5 an hour. Ultimately is expectations became too ridiculous, and I can make similar money going on my own without feeling like a dirt bag.

Anyways, onwards and upwards. I hate building websites at this point, but it'll get me through the last semesters of college. I'm getting there, but it is probably still got around 4-5 semesters to go.

Then school is out forever. 4 real.

Back to studying.

Ballsy, Hollykins. Props for standing on principle.

Good for you! I'd rather do work I hate than hate myself for the work I do. Sounds like you feel the same way. Money will come and go but your integrity lasts.

Edited. I calculated wrong:

Which country was it if I may ask? I came from a 3rd world country. If I am going to be paid $5 an hour, I will be well off for an 8 hour a day job. At that rate, if I work for 2 yeats, I'll be in the millionaire's club over there.

Philipines. The thing is that these people are usually through a company. So $5 I think is okay over there, but a lot goes to overhead of their company. Plus, the hourly rate isn't guaranteed. He was going to not pay them for the hours they put in on a lot of things. Given I think the hours were fluffed, still not cool. It is easy/free to track this type of outsourcing too.

I am not anti-globalist. But I do not think it is okay to say your business is based out of a state in the U.S. then outsource the work all over the place. It isn't what the customer expects. I mean he was doing this to his own family members that were paying him to build websites.

Plus, shitty goals for profit sharing no matter the scale are just shitty.

The whole thing was a clusterfuck to manage, and I'm glad not to be the one trying to run the shit show anymore. Managing sucks. I just want to do stuff rather than crack the whip. It felt so weird that I'd spend a good chunk of my day just emailing/managing tasks. Not my thing - made me feel lazy. Maybe I am anti-globalist. Or anti-capitalist. I'm anti-something that's for sure.

Thanks all by the way! Feels good to know you're doing the right thing - especially when there is a back up plan.

I should have just quit a while ago, but I let it drag out. I get TIRED of chasing clients and dealing with the occasional crazy. I guess I can deal with it for a couple years or find a better company. OI.

Unless you have family obligations such as feeding, clothing, house payment and all that, why get stuck doing something you don't like??

Of course you did the right thing.

I still say you would make a great foot model!

I watched a guy playing classic dining room restaurant songs on accordion yesterday. Songs such as Sinatras's New York, New York and Beseme Mucho. He was standing in front of a supermarket with his case open and a big pile of money inside. I gave him a tip too. I love his music. He said that he was from Miami, heading to Orlando, stopping along the way to play and make money. The guy was on tour. Self employed. Suitcase full of money.
