Default Portable Electric Amp?

I am currently looking for an affordable amp to use whilst I am at university, so I don't have to lug my tube amp about. I heard the Roland Cubes are meant to be good, but maybe the Yahamas too.

Any other recommendations?

The Yamaha THR's are good but if it was me I would find a used cube. Should get you by.

Define "affordable."

About $100 US- get the Cube.

The THR goes for about $300 US- it's a great stereo amp for your pc (what I use it for), as well as in interface.

My choices would be one, or the other, depending on budget. The THR has multiple uses.

If you just need a practice amp, you also might consider one of the cheap headphone amps. When I would go on business trips, I would carry one in my guitar case and I could play ear busting rock leads and nobody but me could hear it. If you want your friends to be able to hear it, then get one of the above small practice amps. With the little practice amps, you can even play in public if there is a PA system and you stick a mike in front of the amp. Some folks say, "Where there's a will there's a way". I say, "Where there's a Dollar Bill there's a way."

A unit with Bluetooth connectivity like the Blackstar Beam 20, the Line 6 AMPLIPHi 75, or other similar may be worth a look. Something that can double as a music speaker, since space is generally at a premium in a college dorm.
