Theguitarguy Just getting started
Default The best acoustic fingerstyle player you've never heard.

Yeah there are a lot of players that could easily fit that description, but there is one man in particular whom I think has as good of an argument as any. His name is John Standefer. He grew up a fan of Chet Aktins, Bossa Nova, and Jazz, and by his 20s, he was the top guitarist on the northwest coast. If Bob Hope was coming to town and was bringing music entertainment with him, John got the call. Yet in spite of his fantastic ability, John seemingly disappeared for some 30 years. And then out of nowhere, he entered and won the National Fingerstyle guitar championship in Winfield, KS, in 2002. Since then, he has put out an amazing array of great fingerstyle guitar albums. My Dad stumbled upon one of John's tab books called, Gospel Cooking, when I was a teen.(I'm 28 now.) Through a series of events, I have gotten to know John over the last 10 years, and he is a super friendly guy. He has incredible ability as a player, but it's the maturity and prowess in his arranging that really sets him apart. He has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Tommy Emmanuel and John Knowles. He has some big news for us listeners....In the past, his music was only available on CD, but he has begun to add his music to the major streaming services like Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music. He currently only has his Candlelight Guitar album available there. It's a nice collection of peaceful guitar music, but be on the lookout for his new release, Kind to the Ear. It will be available on these services in the next several weeks, and it is a collection of arrangements of some of the biggest songs of the last century. It is awesome!! Be sure to follow him on Spotify and add him on Pandora! Let's help him reach new fans. Here are some links to check out. I would love to hear your comments:
