Default Turn The Page (Aly & Squid)

Us covering Bob Seger. This is one that Squid & his partner in crime perform & I have also done this when I was doing my solo gigs. Enjoy.

Karaoke Version BT & you can guess the rest

Thanks for posting this. You nailed the vocals on this...wow! Glad I was able to add a little something to it. What a great song...a classic!

That one's great. I always liked that song.

Let me show my ignorance with a question. How do you do these collaborations? Does one of you record a track or two, then send it to the other to add another track or two, then back and forth until it's done? I'm picturing two people on speaker phones playing and singing with a cassette recorder going at one end.

You have it exactly right! The collaborators each do their own tracks & then someone puts them all together at the end & viola ! It's really easy.

Thanks!

We use our PCs to record the individual tracks and put them on a file sharing website (we have been using box.com). Some of these tracks come from karaoke.com, which has karaoke tracks that you can mute any instrument you want. For this, we are using the bass and drums from the backing track.

So, Aly recorded a vocal track and a guitar track and put them up on box.com. She downloaded the bass and drum track from karaoke.com and put them up on box.com. I downloaded those tracks, put them on my computer and recorded my guitar track. Using my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation, a program that runs on a PC) I mixed the tracks together to create the final track.

It's not as complicated as it sounds. The technology today makes it pretty easy.

But you have to do your track on top of one the other person already did, to get the timing and all correct, right? Someday I'd like to try one.

We're replying on top of each other here! So you're doing your track over a karaoke-type track, and that's the basis for timing etc.

Yes. What you do is put the completed tracks into the DAW. It will play those back while you record the new track.

Beautiful guys. I love the guitar arrangement and what more can I say about Aly's vocals that I haven't already? Nice job!
